The concert was of course the highlight of the festival. A large programme was planned and a challenge for both conductor and Orchestra with no less than three concertos. The venue which held around 800 was well filled although at the price of three euros it should have been packed.The Orchestra conducted by Yair Samet, who came over from the USA for the concert, opened with the Overture to a Symphony concert, a piece which would be recognizable to Rózsa film music followers as his style is...

Can you imagine returning to your hotel room from a satisfying breakfast and being surprised by strains of Rózsa viola music being played live. "It's Rózsa" I said to my wife. Just to briefly echo Alans comments, this was indeed a glorious, unique and memorable concert. And, aside from the concert itself, it was a hugely enjoyable social event with a rare opportunity for Society members to meet up from different countries - the only disappointment being some last minute no shows. The Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra officials provided us with truly exceptional V.I.P. treatment, not the least of which was that wonderful dinner under the stars which went on well...

Well, the weekend is over and what a successful and thoroughly absorbing one it was...(and hot: 30 degrees celsius!) Several of us from New York, The Netherlands, London - joined the ranks of a large and enthusiastic audience of Serbians at the Kolorac Hall to witness a highly unique event of three concertos by Rozsa, each performed with vigour and an obvious love of the music, all in one bumper concert last Saturday.

Can't understand the prominence of his fallout with Hitchcock being relevent to the festival though. It seems out of place.

I see from their site that the Orchestra in Belgrade allows their final rehearsals to be open to the public so could be a good opportunity to experience a bit more live music than the concert itself. Anyone know when they would take place?

Above is the schedule as I've just had it from Jill Arbetter, who as we know, did so much to initiate the Budapest events of last year. We're disappointed, of course, that the planned three concerts have been reduced to one. The explanation that I've heard is rather complicated, having to do with the scheduling of Serbian elections and demands upon the orchestra's time for some official national functions.

But what a monster concert this will be! Three major concertos in one...

I just learned that the Eurovision song contest, big in Europe, is taking place hard on the heels of the Rózsa festival concert series and also in Belgrade. This appears to have considerably influenced hotel availability and prices. A quick search on Google shows hotels in Belgrade at a premium and I couldn't find one at anywhere near a reasonable rate with rooms available.
