That does explain a lot Guenther. That's not made at all clear in the CD from Ryko's notes. There's a statement that Arnold wrote bits, but not which bits.

If it's true that Arnold wrote the march, then he must have been copying Walton's style fastidiously. What you're saying is that Walton didn't write the best parts of his score, and that this is never recognised even in the concert world where those parts are regularly accepted.

That sort of thing brings it all down to earth. Walton and Arnold did have a 'nudge-wink' feel about Hollywood, and film-music in general, and if anything confirms it, that does. Over at FSM board no-one wants to hear that! They occasionally gave of their best in that field, but only if they 'identified'. And BoB was no masterpiece. Take money and leap.

Still, it all goes to confirm too that a good shortscore won't lose the composer's feel through orchestration.
