Many years ago, I did consider writing an article about Schoenberg, Berg and Webern referring to them as "Arnie, Al and Tony," just to get people's attention, though. And if I said 'Frank' to you, Mike, who would you immediately think of? Most would say Sinatra, but you would say Zappa, right? And you'd call him Frank in articles too. If only people said 'Miklos' with the same recognition. I don't see it as generational or regional. Just differentiation in types of media. Social etiquette and formal and informal journalism are different things. Also the basic requirement not to be boring or repetitive, not to keep saying 'Rozsa' throughout a post or thread. Interestingly, bishops and archbishops in the Anglican Communion are always referred to by their first names, as are knights and Dames. As regards Previn, he was Rozsa's close personal friend. What else WOULD he call him but Miki, as did Wilder? Politically and expedientially speaking, if you take the temperature of the 'fans' on, say the FSM board (the normal ones?) there's a lot to be said for not elevating Miklos Rozsa above the other Golden Agers like Korngold, Steiner, etc.. Diplomacy goes a long way and wins converts. Converts mean recordings etc.. The tricks you learn from the ad industry.
