Little seems to be known of this early work, apart from that it was made up of mainly gypsy-sounding Hungarian themes and folk tunes, and became very well received at some venues in the UK. Rozsa arranged and orchestrated these (including apparently the "Rakoczy March"- plus some of his own folk songs).

According to Chris Palmer's 1975 monograph on the composer, the conductor was Leighton Lucas and it ran initially at the Duke of York's theatre in London, where of course it was heard by amongst many, film director Jacques Feyder. And the rest is history.......as they say!

I also remember Chris saying that he was interested in having it resurrected and hopefully recorded; sadly nothing came of this, and he died soon afterwards. It would have been a worthy and most interesting project indeed.
