Wassis all got to do with the Korda era?
'Prelude' and love theme, Avie.
Clearly someone at the Beeb Concert Orchestra loves B-H and it generally gets a good kick of applause. But not only has it nowt to do with the Bard, it has nowt to do with 'Rome' either, since the selection chosen uses entirely music for the Hebraic and Christian elements of the film. Not a single note is 'Roman'.
It does get slightly depressing sometimes that the genius and even plain logic decisions that create such a score are generally wasted even on musicians who might know the stuff. The closest Will Shakespeare ever got to this was Shylock in M of V.
We had a skater on another thread dance on video to the Love Theme of Ben-Hur whilst dressed as an ancient Roman of sorts in a dress and lambrequins. A piece totally Jewish in its inspirations and even structuring.
Everybody loves Rozsa, but he might as well write Chinese music for 'The Quiet Man' for all anybody cares. What does everyone think they're hearing? How can they declare it great when they don't even know what it's trying to do?
