The closing concert of the of the convention was really memorable. Program
was
> "Pebble Beach Sojurn" by Ron Nelson; "Mass in G minor" by Vaughan-Williams;
> "Souvenir" by John Cage; "Homage to Varese" by Heuwell Tircuit; "Fantasia for
> organ, brass, and percussion" by Miklos Rozsa [wonderful]; AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
> a WRETCHED!!!!!!!!!!!! piece "Orbits : a symphonic spatial symphony for 84
> trombones and organ" by Henry Brant. First of all - I didn't think god made
> 84 trombonists to play in one ensemble and that they would all be in
> San Francisco - or maybe where else would they be???? It was interesting to
> witness this piece and hear the trombones make a "WAVE" much like what you
> would see at a baseball/football game. Even before the piece was over an
> ANGRY conventioneer stood up in the middle of St. Mary's Cathedral and
> HURLED his program at Brant - who was conducting - and stormed out of the
> place. Needless to say he was sitting FRONT AND CENTER of the Cathedral.
