Excerpt:
There are also some rarer works on the bill that will set a useful contrast to the Schubert, like Miklós Rózsa’s Andante for Strings. The composer was better known for his Hollywood movie scores (Double Indemnity, Spellbound, Ben-Hur), but this piece is an anguished, modernist lament for his war-ravaged Hungarian homeland. The evening concludes with the finale of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. Orchestras typically excerpt the work's second movement, but DSO will instead play the piece's boisterous conclusion.
