An educated guess is there was some bad blood between Rozsa and Bronston. Rozsa was unhappy with the loud sound effects in El Cid covering his music, and he refused to go to the premier or take part in the promotion of the film. Bronston wanted another Rozsa, and saw Tiomkin as a substitute. Tiomkin went on to score 55 Days at Peking and Circus World for Bronston.
