"'Sodom wasn't a stinker, it was merely an above average "spear and sandal" import. If you were at Fox at the time, you may recall the film was supposed to open as a roadshow attraction, and then was wide released (I think under the "showcase" banner)."

So what .... the cock-ups and gaffs in 'Sodom' are SO bad (and universally recognised) that it'd be perverse to ignore them. How oft must we enumerate them? It's not subjective ... it's undebatable. Because Fox gave it the green light, all the artistic, literary, theological, dramatic, symbolic, craftsmanship, entertainment criteria don't matter? To say it was better than many a spaghetti import is to say nothing. If you want a film that's worse than 'Alexander' this is it.

Most essentially, to praise the film is to do Rozsa an injustice. We have to emphasise that it's a great score for a lousy picture to do HIM justice. He knew it was a stinko.

I do think folk are hard on 'The V.I.P.s' though.
