I have always much preferred the world premier concert performance of the YB-Fantasy (in San Fransisco?)- as compared to the one recorded on Antares, conducted by the young German, Rainer Padberg. (Or he seemed young at the time of the sessions!)

It is a splendid piece, especially when given an upbeat, full-of-feeling lift; sadly, I don't find that on the disc. Herr Padberg was an engaging and very enthusiastic conductor at those sessions, but I felt the full weight of Rozsa's scores, chosen to be recorded on that day so long ago, proved just too much for him.

I hope he has been able to develop into a more all round and capable Maestro over the years since then. It still remains a fair, but flawed, compendium.
