Just a correction for the sake of accuracy: The great Decca engineer referred to in the Ben Hur comparison, Kenneth Wilkinson, didn't record the Solti Ring - that was Gordon Parry, another Decca engineer who defined orchestral and opera recording for all time. Both of them have died within the past eighteen months. The Decca Phase Four Ben Hur was recorded by Stan Goodall. That's three of the greatest mentioned in one message.
