One of the interesting bits in Louis Kaufman's memoir is the news that the famous violinist refused to play at Fox for most of his career. We know that he had great respect for Alfred Newman. He played the solos in Wuthering Heights (at Goldwyn) and in THe Greatest Story Ever Told as well as countless other Hollywood films. But he would not work for TCF on account of supposed music department incompetence due to nepotism. I suppose that had something to do with either Lionel or Emil Newman. But Kaufman offers no further details in his book, and I've never heard an outside take on the story.
