Thesis: The soundtrack album boom of recent years has been bad for our musical explorations.
I'm not knocking FSM and Marco Polo and Silva for one moment. But their wonderful products are spilling all over my shelves and desk and tables. They are also straining my wallet. Who can keep up with all the new releases? More to the point, how easy it has been not to pursue those classical rarities that I'm always discovering in
Fanfare
or
ARG.
And is it a mere coincidence that those Bartok quartets and Montverdi operas I've always been meaning to explore -- you know, the tougher stuff that demands full attention -- have been sitting underneath the pile of movie scores for the last couple of years?
Yes, in some ways my listening has become less adventurous of late. I'm wondering if anybody else has had the same experience.
