I've always found it interesting how certain myths seem common to cultures one would think otherwise- the creation, the flood, etc.
Here we have a story on the dangers of looking back, physically and metaphorically. Orpheus doesn't trust the gods, he looks back and, oops, there goes Eurydice. And then there's the story of Lot (with music by you-know-who, just to tie it in) whose wife does likewise and turns to salt. Of course, in the Hebrew text it's the woman's fault, daughter of Eve that she is. But one is struck by the similar warning of not looking back that travels time and space between the two tales.
