Perhaps my player removes it although I doubt it.

Currently I'm watching DVD images on a 60" big screen that resolves up to 1080 x 1920 and for images in 720 and 480 it will display them in the progressive mode.

My DVD player is state-of-the-art and I use no enhancement or filtering of any kind.

To give you an example, the recent Twilight Zone DVD sets demonstrate inconsistent grain from shot-to-shot in some of the episodes. At first I thought they used different film stock, but then it dawned on me that the reason for increased film grain was the fact that some shots were optically blown up.

This by the way is still common practice for TV series since they don't have the time to shoot every angle at every focal length even though today's hour drama TV series can cost several million an episode.
