"They hired some so-called "expert" woman professor and she says something and then David Raksin says the opposite!"

I'm guessing that would be Kathryn Kalinak, author of Settling the Score, which discusses Laura in some detail. I reviewed that book in PMS, and sure enough, David Raksin wrote me a letter complaining that the author was wrong about several things.

Nevertheless, I'm not inclined to complain about professorial experts. They are, by definition, people who have devoted their lives to studying and teaching and writing about their specialties. There are indeed some fans and industry professionals who may know more about this or that aspect of filmmaking. But most of us stay on the sidelines, never bothering to write a book or even a short article. Is it any wonder that the teaching office passes to others?
