I was pleased that the first "YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS" CD from several years ago was still available at http://www.cambriamus.com/cds/cd_filmMusic.htm I look forward to hearing both.

Gosh, I honestly think the 'Young Bess' and 'Mme. Bovary' dances sound better this way .... more authentic ...than in the full film versions.
Great period feel.
If the 'Psycho' gets published you just know there are lots of classical guitarists who'll want this in their repertoire even for the sheer wicked humour of it. Well done. |

Gregg's beautiful new CD is now shipping. The Rozsa "Suite" (which includes an additional movement arranged by Gregg that wasn't part of
Palmer's original work) is wonderful - a quarter hour of sheer Rozsa pleasure - and the two-guitar arrangements of other composer's film work contain
some surprising delights (who ever would have thought PSYCHO would work on guitars?)! Order your copy today! Score and parts for the Suite are also available
for purchase from Cambria (follow the link from Hank's list on the Society website).
Maybe someday we will be able to hear Gregg's guitar transcription of the viola concerto! |

A CD to Remember | ||

YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS TOO is again a wonderful recording. And as the previous Rózsa-CD it's unbelievable how some titles sound so perfect in transcription
for guitar(s).
Of course the Rózsa-piece is a gem!

Its a boot isn't it? What are the tracks? We're still waiting for Morgan and Stromberg to do a rerecording of the whole score. The sound on their CDs
is fantastic. Pity they haven't seen fit to have a go at Rozsa.

Same as with LAST EMBRACE. If some label has offered this recording for public sale, they are cheating Elmer Bernstein's estate and other true owners. The
Bernstein recording is available from Film Score Monthly (in a large box set of all the Bernstein recordings).

Without bothering to check, I suspect that the Soundtrack Library disc whose tracks are listed above were taken from the Film Music Society's CD of THE
THIEF OF BAGHDAD's original tracks, which are almost certainly not under copyright, and not the Bernstein Filmmusic Notebook recordings of
the mid-1970s to which Film Score Monthly now has rights.
I'm also pretty sure that Lukas Kendall would've gone, hammer-and-tong, after any off-shore operation infringing on his contracts. The Film Music Society may have spent a fair sum of money producing their CD, and I think we're all grateful that they did, but I doubt that any of those expenses included securing rights for the music contained on the old acetates they used as a source.

Its unlike you to not be sure of your facts Lee. Bruce Ogston , the singer in the CD Golden Age mentions is indeed the same as on the Bernstein recording. So
it is the Bernstein recording with added tracks from other sources conducted by Rozsa. Its a bootleg in all senses of the word. Now FSM should just go ahead
and release the Thief as a single CD (or with Young Bess). Better still, Tribute should give us that brand new rerecording we all await.

Avie seems to be mixing up the Film Music Society CD of Jungle Book with Thief of Bagdad, which of course, FMS have not released. The Soundtrack Library boot
contained the Bernstein LP plus some of the tracks from Rozsa's Nuremberg Symphony recording. The Soundtrack Library disc appeared years before the FSM
Bernstein box set and as far as I know that and all the other Soundtrack Library discs disappeared from the market place long ago.
