has not been well used here. When we gained the capability (nearly a year ago), I thought there would be a tremendous response. Film Score Monthly's regular polls used to generate a lot of interest, even to the point of "ballot stuffing." Even
our old-fashioned MRS member poll, printed in PMS 56 and reported in PMS 58 (2000) generated some thirty replies. By asking for multiple responses ("your
five favorite ____"), I was able to tabulate some significant numbers. But the sole effort in this Forum has thus far generated only eighteen replies. The
format is perhaps limiting. Is there a "multiple choices" option? I'll have to investigate. But the real problem was surely a failure of
imagination. We need to generate some good questions. OK, your favorite Rozsa film score. But that's kind of a no-brainer, isn't it? Other favorites in
film scores and other kinds of music? Let's have some ideas, please. I'm sure we could have some fun with this.

If you're curious, the old poll asked people to name their favorite Rozsa score. You can guess the winner. EL CID was a surprisingly close second. Rounding
out the top ten were:
Thief of Badgad Quo Vadis King of Kings Ivanhoe Madame Bovary Young Bess Sodom and Gomorrah The Lost Weekend There were mentions of ten other films as well. The Polydor was the favorite anthology album, handily beating out the RCA. Most in need of a recording: Diane (by a wide margin) Valley of the Kings The Green Berets Desert Fury The Four Feathers Lady Hamilton The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes and many others. As you know. most of these are now on disc in one form or another. Favorite concert works: Violin Concerto Theme, Variations, and Finale Notturno ungherese Viola Concerto Fewer votes here, reflecting the fact that people were unfamiliar with many of the works. |

The newer polls (on the late film scores) have received about 15 votes (vs. 18 to date for the one on the concertos. I guess that explodes one hypothesis --
that there's less interest in the concert music. What is it then? Are there fewer than 20 people interested in this sort of thing? I would invite readers
to have a look at the Film Score Monthly poll archive, where scores of their reader polls are archived. Perhaps some of their questions may suggest interesting
questions for us.

I don't understand the lack of interest either. After all, it takes no effort to cast a vote. I do hope that this doesn't mean that there are only
about 20 people reading this Forum!

Check the Yuku stats page for this forum.... and remember those figures relate back as far as 1999, and previous incarnations, so they're misleading.

(What's the diff between 'visits' and 'views'?) 146 visits on average is false, since there certainly has been a decline in posters, so
we assume a proportionate decline in visitors? Probably need to halve that, and then what of those who peek in about twice a day? Then it comes down to about
30 visitors daily? There looks like a decline in the 'Talking Herrmann' thread posts too, but certainly more posters there.

William D McCrum wrote: I suspect around 30 visitors a day is not far off the mark - probably the same 30 people every day!. "Visits" relate to the mumber of people who look at the site and "Views" are the number of pages which a visitor looks at. |

\I tired to enter the poll but each time it asked me if I wanted to set up a new email account to do so !!!! Planet Yuku does seem like a parallel universe where everyday logic does not apply. Among my recent curious experiences is the way they make me to log in every week or so. (Login used to be permanent.) At least they have a help desk that does seem to be somewhat responsive. |
