The first is a microphone recording of a BBC television programme from 1973. The sound is archival but the majority is quite listenable and here Rozsa states his pride on the Ben-Hur score. The second is a better quality recording of a BBC radio interview from 1984. Both interviews are interspersed with music. The Miklos Rozsa society website is slowly becoming the most complete reference site for Rozsa on the internet. It would be nice to continue this accumulation of information with the help of members and interesed persons who could make available interviews and music arrangements they may have in their possession. I hadn't heard the second one from 'Around Midnight' before. And the first was different from what I remember (maybe it was a different show, or maybe edited from a longer show: I THINK Rozsa had finished being interviewed by Jenkinson, but the show continued?) because I remember Morley showing clips from 'King of Kings' etc. afterwards? It's so good that this has been preserved. It seems Rozsa was on TV/radio quite a lot in the UK. Interesting stuff about his distaste for title songs.

Is anyone besides me having troubling downloading them? They seem to be extremely large files (over 10MB) and, once dowloaded into Real Player, just keep loading and loading and loading .... Do I just need to be patient???

Perhaps you should go to 'Set Programme Access and Defaults' and select a different default player, like Windows or something? On Broadband it should be quite fast.

It began with Jenkinson doing an intro, then moved to the interview on Alan's long clip. Then afterwards the presenters discussed other stuff, probably new releases etc., and finally, in the last moments of the show, Sheridan Morley was introduced with a little resume of Rozsa and some clips from BH and KoKs. Amazing how these things lie in the recesses of the mind. If it was broadcast in 1973, then I reckon it was most likely filmed during the 1972 filmharmonic concert trip, and then held back to early the next year? P.S. The BFI database mentions quite a few 'Film Night' shows with Jenkinson, and interviews with John Ford, Preminger etc. ... it was a who's who of great talent, but no mention of Miklos in 1973. But there were many more programmes filmed than listed. Perhaps all deleted? http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/2062 Incidentally, you'll notice that one show was dedicated to 'Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail'. I remember that programme (1974) which followed the cast on set, and I do recall very well, that Rozsa's 'Quo Vadis?' triumphal march ('Ave Caesar') was tracked into the show as 'historical' background music (!!!?), there being no score material to use at that time of filming. This was the Rome recording. Jenkinson is still alive, and he was an AVID lover of Miklos Rozsa, never failing to plug his music in columns etc.. Maybe he was the subject of such a lecture? If anyone in London wants to try also, please do. Would Guenther know if the Herrmann lecture ever took place? Both the Rozsa and the Herrmann talks were printed in PMS back in the day. It was Craig Reardon who did the transcribing, and I imagine that he must have possessed audiotapes. Craig was a special effects makeup technician. He worked on Poltergeist and the Ken Russell-Paddy Chayefsky-John Corigliano thing (ah, how memory deserts me these days!) and many others. He used to be a very active Society member and correspondent, but we haven't heard from him in years. And I never even thought to inquire about the tape.

As I said there are a few errors. Heifitz, Iosif Kitson / Gillett 17/12/1986 Herrmann, Bernard Claire Kitson/John Gillett 17/12/1986 Herrmann was interviewed on 11 June 1972 by Ted Gilling. A tape exists. I am sure the BFI has still most if not all of the tapes. At one point the interviews were no longer sponsored by John Player but by the Guardian. But the list is not complete. Elmer Bernstein was interviewed by Cynthia Millar in 2002 and it is not listed. Hitchcock, Alfred Bryan Forbes 27/03/1967 Hitchcock, Alfred Philip Strick 19/03/1991 The Forbes is well known and was even filmed. But how did Strick do his trick? (Actually it was a lecture by Strick ON Hitch)

On BBC interview Rozsa talk about his double life and talk about his "estate". Sometimes with the today composers we have a rigid winter but fortunately with the Rozsa's estate the sun shines always and several of this composers melt as snow

I suspect it would be later when the lp era was in full swing but it's advertised as a 16'LP. I didn't know they even existed. Does anyone here know of this interview. Info greatly appreciated. It's apparently a standard 16" transcription disc, the sort once used by radio stations and, I presume, movie studios when they gave composers copies of their recorded scores to review. Whoever bought it, I hope he/she has it transferred to CD to make it available to the wider world (which is what I was planning to do).

Posts: 1 (10/07/09 13:54:30) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I have [recordings of] two of the 'Here's to Veterans' transcription discs described above that Elmer Bernstein "compered". These must date from the mid-to-late 1950s because on one of the discs Mr Bernstein introduces selections from his album "Love Scene" (from the Dot label) and on the other, some cues from Some Came Running (Capitol). In between he advises U.S. servicemen on benefits and G.I. insurance. It seems unlikely to me that the Rozsa disc listed from eBay was produced during "wartime". Certainly the Bernstein albums were made from flexible vinyl rather than the brittle shellac type records that would have been prevalent in the 1940s. - JMM.
