I was listening to the commentary on the Blu-Ray version of The Robe which features "film historians" John Burlingame, Julie Kirgo, and Nick Redman, as well as composer David Newman (son of Alfred). Although this discussion -- which focuses primarily on the film's music -- was very informative, I got really fed up with people referring to Newman as "Al" and "Alfred" (without his last name) as well as "Al Newman" -- specifically Burlingame and Redman. Are these people Newman's Best Friend Forever or something? You often find similar name-dropping on the FSM discussion board where people talk about "Jerry," "Benny," "Elmer," etc. Even David Newman refers to his father in the third person, which I found kind of peculiar. I sure can't imagine anyone discussing Rozsa's music in a similar DVD commentary and referring to him as just "Miklos" in this manner.
