Featured works include "Cornish Rhapsody" by Hubert Bath, composed in 1944 for the British film "Love Story"; "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" by Claude Debussy, used in the 1948 David O. Selsnick film "Portrait of Jennie"; "Warsaw Concerto" by Richard Addinsell, composed in 1941 for the British film "Dangerous Moonlight"; "An American in Paris" by George Gershwin, featured as the famous ballet from the movie of the same name that won six Academy Awards in 1951, and "Spellbound Concerto" by Miklos Rozsa for the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock film "Spellbound."
The repertoire of music is haunting, brutal and undeniably the centerpiece of each movie. War-weary audiences truly embraced the music from these films. All of the music became popularized as stand-alone pieces played on the radio for years afterward.
