Excerpt:
There are also some rarer works on the bill that will set a useful contrast to the Schubert, like Miklós Rózsa’s Andante for Strings. The composer was better known for his Hollywood movie scores (Double Indemnity, Spellbound, Ben-Hur), but this piece is an anguished, modernist lament for his war-ravaged Hungarian homeland. The evening concludes with the finale of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. Orchestras typically excerpt the work's second movement, but DSO will instead play the piece's boisterous conclusion.

Dear Mr. Marco Ubaldi,
Thank you very much for you email! Before receiving your email I hadn’t known about your Society, and now after checking your site I am absolutely happy and delighted, since I found many useful information about Dr. Rózsa there. I am going to play his entire Guitar Sonata op. 42 later this year in Hungary and in Florida as well, so as soon I have the exact dates and venues I’ll inform you about this upcoming performances too.
Best regards
Andras Csaki

22 February 2015 at 18:00; WDR (West German Broadcasting Corporation), Klaus-von-Bismarck Hall, Broadcasting House, Wallrafplatz 1, Cologne. The upcoming “Tribute to Miklos Rozsa” in Cologne is, I think I’m right in saying, the first all-Rozsa orchestral concert since the memorable Belgrade concert in 2008. Several of us have already indicated our planned attendance and hopefully more Rozsaphiles from across Europe will be there. February 4 - 23, 2015 Denver music organization bringing orchestra music to schools throughout Colorado. Inside the Orchesrtra. Where did movie music composer John Williams ('Harry Potter') get his inspiration? One of his influences was film composer Miklos Rozsa whose work spanned five decades. Rozsa invented various themes to tie in the story: a main theme/march, a love theme, and the "bad guy tune". His many film credits include: 'Ben Hur,' 'King of Kings,' and 'El Cid,' the epic flicks of the 50s and early 60s. HIs last film was 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid,' which starred actor Steve Martin. In the winter Tiny Tots series, we will feature his main score from 'Quo Vadis' which will highlight all the families of instruments that make up an orchestra. The infectious melody will sound like Roman Soldiers marching down the Appian Way. Each section of the orchestra will demonstrate their fanfares: the brass, strings, winds and percussion-- and then we will put the music back together.
