I just love the mistaken spelling of the little thief's name. Such serendipitous juxtapositions (as this with the great Bengali realist Satyajit Ray's Apu trilogy) just make my day -- as well as shifting the scene a couple of thousand miles to the east!
Rex Ingram has also undergone a similar elevation to Abraham (who was once 'Abram') in that he is now 'Ingrahams'. Still, at least Mr. Kaufman manages to convey what might be infectious and is keen on the material. If I were unscrupulous, I'd get this DVD and mercilessly rip the MFX track for my CDRs. But of course I wouldn't. That'd be like stealing honey from the bazaar. Maybe I would. Satyajit Ray, by the way, used to score his own films. An all-rounder.

I personally have never found Duprez particularly attractive--she has a bit of a hard edge to my eye--but her Princess is a lovely creation and obviously the model for both the Montez creations which followed and Disney's own Jasmine.
I would be remiss if I were not to mention the landmark musical score of Miklos Rozsa, mining here the leitmotif genre that was reaching its filmic apex after having been championed by such stalwarts as Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

There are a lot of clips from Battal Gazzi Destani on YouTube. This one shows the title sequence tracked with El Cid:

It is widely believed that uploaded films make them accessible to audiences that would otherwise not know of their existence, thus encouraging, not harming sales of DVDs, etc.
Countless times I have been told that a DVD purchase was made AFTER viewing the film online. True, there are folks who just buy cheap DVDs w/out knowing anything about the film or by judging by the cover of the case. But by and large, most buyers of DVD classic films (pre 1960, for example) already have seen the flick either online or on television. And like television, the flash format online version is no comparison to the 'hard copy' DVD one can purchase. If The Cinemated Man or other sites which follow strict copyright usage guidelines are 'bootleg' than so is network television.
I understand your worries concerning uploaded DVD rips, bittorrents, etc and the problems for filmmakers and distributors that 'bootleg' uploads can cause. But rest assured The Cinemated Man doesn't bootleg and always plays by the rules. But don't just take my word for it, check it out. Peace. -Miles

Also, remember, that Sony, which bought Colombia, like all other distribution arms does not pay royalties to the Korda family, the Rozsa estate, or anyone else connected to Sahara in any way. The distribution company is exactly that.
If you like to do battle, fight for the creator, not the conglomerate, which more times than not, in cases of old films in particular, conveniently neglects anyone connected with the production. And even in the rare cases where they did pay out royalties at one time, the contracts they are bound by did not include modern transport mechanisms such as video, DVDs, and beyond.
If you don't believe me, ask another director/actor/composer, etc.. Be that as it may, fair or unfair, the rights to the films seen in this list are no rights reserved, at least in Japan. All I can say is, distribution rights vary from country to country. Your mileage may vary.
